Badass Ladies, part 2.
Ten badass things you didn’t know about Helen Keller:
.) She was the first deafblind person to attend and graduate college, and the only person to do so for another 50 years. Bad. Ass.
.) She was also the first deafblind person to write a book. She ended up writing 14 books in her lifetime.
.) She toured the Vaudeville circuit and was known for her witty responses to audience questions.
.) She starred in a movie about herself.
.) She loved hot dogs. (I read this on the internet, therefore it’s true)
.) She also liked actual dogs. She was responsible for introducing the Akita to America after receiving one as a gift during a trip to Japan. Yes, she introduced a brand new dog breed to the US.
.) She met every single president from Grover Cleveland to Lyndon Johnson. (That’s 13 presidents, if your history skills aren’t that great).
.) She was an involved political activist and campaigned for women’s suffrage, birth control, worker’s rights, socialism, and she helped found the ACLU. All in the 1920s.
.) She was friends with Alexander Graham Bell and Mark Twain.
.) Despite not being able to hear or see, she still LEARNED TO SPEAK.
