Dear Elizabeth!
My name Katya. I'm from Russia.
What my favorite moment? There are a lot of, the one of then is: ""Katniss?" Peeta says. I meet his eyes, knowing my face must be some shade of green. He mouths the words. "How about that kiss?"
I burst out laughing because the whole thing is so revolting I can't stand it.
"Something wrong?" he asks a little too innocently.
"I⦠I'm no good at this. I'm not my mother. I've no idea what I'm doing and I hate pus," I say. "Euh!" I allow myself to let out a groan as I rinse away the first round of leaves and apply the second. "Euuuh!"
"How do you hunt?" he asks.
"Trust me. Killing things is much easier than this," I say. "Although for all I know, I am killing you."
"Can you speed it up a little?" he asks.
"No. Shut up and eat your pears," I say.
After three applications and what seems like a bucket of pus, the wound does look better. Now that the swelling has gone down, I can see how deep Cato's sword cut. Right down to the bone.
"What next, Dr. Everdeen?" he asks.
"Maybe I'll put some of the burn ointment on it. I think it helps with infection anyway. And wrap it up?" I say. I do and the whole thing seems a lot more manageable, covered in clean white cotton. Although, against the sterile bandage, the hem of his undershorts looks filthy and teeming with contagion. I pull out Rue's backpack. "Here, cover yourself with this and I'll wash your shorts."
"Oh, I donât care if you see me," says Peeta.
"You're just like the rest of my family," I say. "I care, all right?" I turn my back and look at the stream until the undershorts splash into the current. He must be feeling a bit better if he can throw.
"You know, you're kind of squeamish for such a lethal person" says Peeta"
P.S. Thank you, I hope you do not look at my bad
english.
With love Kate, tribute from Russia =)) -
Hi Elizabeth, :)
Well I have never been fortunate enough to win anything in life, especially something this incredible. Sadly enough we just lost our grandmother this morning after a long bout of breast cancer (A big thank you to everyone that supports this cause) Iâm sure that she would have loved to see your upcoming movie. My wife (Lizzy) and I are both elementary school teachers and with everything going on lately, this is actually the first time that we have had an opportunity to check our emails this week and read about your very unique giveaway on the website. Kudos, to you Elizabeth for being such a humble person and treating your fans so well! :)
Unfortunately, we haven't had a chance to purchase The Hunger Games book yet. Therefore, we would have been unable to pick a favorite scene from the book. Even though my family and I are new to the book series, we just wanted to take a moment and say "Thank you Elizabeth for all of your amazing work and films that you have done through the yearsâ. We have really enjoyed watching everything that you have done. Keep up the great work! :)
I know that my family and I will never be lucky enough to win something as special as your autograph. Nevertheless, I was just curious to know if your will ever do any type of giveaway like this in the near future. We would absolutely love to tell our friends, family and colleagues about it so that they might have a chance to possibly win something so amazing like this.
Have a wonderful day ahead and thanks so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to read this comment! We look forward to buying our tickets to see The Hunger Games movie. Best of luck to you always!
Sincerely,
Dick :) -
Well, anyway...now that my bitterness is over, I'm going to post my favorite moment anyway. I just love this series beyond belief!!
I really loved the moments when Peeta and Katniss are on the train, on their way home and Katniss allows Peeta to fall asleep in her bed holding her. Katniss spends her whole life being the strong one, the provider, the one having to be brave and keep a straight face. Ever since her father passed, she has been the main care-giver in her family. Seeing her in these moments, allowing Peeta to hold her and having that be the only way she can go to sleep...it really shows that Katniss is still a human being and she still needs love, still needs someone to take care of HER. They really do a great job of showing her vulnerability and her need for human comfort. I REALLY hope they keep this in the movie!! :) -
This isn't fair :( I've been trying to sign up since yesterday, never received a confirmation email, contacted customer support, still nothing. I JUST got the e-mail and now it's too late!! So not cool!! -
Did I really just miss out on the contest?! NOOOO!!! Well, either way, my favorite scene is definitely when Katniss arranges the flowers around Rue. That scene works on so many levels and conveys so many emotions, I had to re-read it 4 or 5 times. I hope they do it justice in the film. -
There are many scenes from the book that I love. But, I hope this particular scene appears in the movie: It's a day before their televised interview prepping.. Katniss wakes up at dawn, thinking about District 12 and Gale. And then she tells the story of how she met Gale. It shows the first time when Katniss and Gale ran into each other in the woods, it tells people about the special relationship that they both have with each other, it shows the same interest that they both have â hunting. This first meeting of theirs has a very special significance, it is how Gale got the nickname for Katniss (Catnip), and that's what makes this meeting scene so important. I believe this scene shows the first progress of Katniss and Gale's special friendship (or it could be more than just that). Anyhow, I can't wait for the movie! -
My favourite scene in the book is when Katniss sings the lullaby and burries Rue in wildflowers. It is an extremly emotional part of the book and is when Katniss finally undestands what Peeta meant when he said that he 'didn't want to be just a part of their [the Capitol] games.' It was Katniss' first true symbol of defiance in the Games and really showed why she was called the Girl on Fire. It also showed the horrors of the Hunger Games, that Rue- only 12 years old, who loved music above all else and was fiercly protective of her siblings- could be killed in punishment for a war that happened long before her time was very sad. The fact that she was killed by another child doubled the horror and sadness. If this scene is as good in the movie as it was in the book The Hunger Games movie will definitely become the phenomenon that everyone is expecting. -
I really hope they tell Peeta's story of giving Katniss the bread. It was such a pivotal point in his life, and I hope the film makers realized that! -
-
My favorite scene that I really really hope that is in the book is when Katniss tells Peeta how she got Prim's goat because this just showed their connection and how she is in just desperate need to keep him alive and to get sponsored gifts! -
The scene I am most looking forward to is the one where Katniss finds Peeta hurt and covered in camouflage. Your spirits lifted as a reader when Katniss yelled out Peeta's name. :) -
My favorite scene in the book is when Katniss and Peeta see Cato running towards them. An arrow is insufficient in striking Cato's body due to his armor. I can just imagine Cato's smirk when Katniss's arrow doesn't work and then seeing a pack of enormous wolves on his tail. I hope that this scene is in the movie because it is filled with the action of fighting to the death while being haunted by a pack of wolf muttations and its engulfed with the emotion of the moment that Katniss and Peeta realize that they can finally return home to District 12. -
I'm hoping that they show a young Katniss getting burned bread from a young Peeta. That sets up so much of the story. -
My favorite scene in the book that I'm sure is in the movie is the final trip to the Cornucopia where Foxface is hiding before the final showdown. -
I can't wait to see all of the cave scenes, especially the conversations that take place there. Also, when Katniss finds Peeta camouflaged in mud. -
-
My favorite part is in the book is just before the reaping, when Katniss is enjoying her meal with her family. She was positive her sister was safe and it was a pure moment of happiness for Katniss. -
My favorite scene in the book, and one that will make me very upset if it isn't in the movie, is the one where Katniss sings the lullaby to Rue and then covers Rue's body with flowers. I don't wish to say the same things as Maddie, although those are some of the reasons I like the scene, but I found this to be one of the most touching scenes in the book. When I was reading the book this scene was the one I was able to see most clearly in my head and I can't wait to see how the movie will portray it. -
My favorite scene in the book is when the moment Katniss and Peeta were just about to eat the red poison berries. The climax moment when the Government had no way to take control of the situation happening there but to only stop them, therefore the two cunning contestant won. I would like to see that exact moment. The faces of everyone anticipating the very moment. -

My favorite scene in the book is when Katniss and Peeta are in the cave and she is telling him about getting Prim her goat. Even though Katniss didn't tell Peeta exactly what happens, she is willing to share this story with him. Katniss and Peeta are getting to know each other better during their time in the cave. When they were in the cave it was like nothing else really mattered, other then that the two of them were together and they were alive. I think at this part in the book the were both beginning to care a lot about each, and for the first time I think that Katniss truly did begin to like Peeta. -
My favorite scene is when Katniss volunteers for tribute in place of her sister. That sort of selfless sacrifice is hard to find today and for it being between two siblings makes it that much stronger. -
My favorite scene in the book is when Katniss sings the lullaby to Rue and then covers her with wildflowers. This scene demonstrates that there is beauty even in the face of death, like the song and the flowers covering Rue's body. It also demonstrates the true horror of the Games. This scene is even worse than the ones of death and violence and murder because we finally see that Rue is really just a little girl. Rue asks Katniss to sing for her, knowing that she is dying and hoping that this will give her some comfort. This scene is also one of my favorites because it shows Katniss' love for her sister, Prim, when Katniss says, "But if this is Prim's, I mean Rue's last request...". As well, the flowers are an act of rebellion against the Capitol, and demonstrate that even a small action can demonstrate that Katniss and the others are "more than just a piece in their games".
I hope that this scene makes it into the movie because maybe it will make people realize the problems with violence and the fact that children are most affected. However, I know that I'll cry when I see it!
