I love Morticia Addams and wish I could wear black all day...I do have to say my favorite mother of the movies is the mother Alien from Aliens. A true mother bear, she will tear you to shreds (literally) if you mess with her babies! A close second would be JoBeth Williams in Poltergeist. Slamming into the gates of hell for your kid? What a woman! ;) -
Haha! Perfect! I think my current favorite would have to be Beyonce, because come on...that child will get the best sung lullabies, gazing up at that beautiful face. -
Wow! I agree with Natalie and Elizabeth! My favorite mother would have to be my own. She is such a blessing! -
Hmmm my favorite mom. I feel like I am always routing for the mom in movies and tv shows, even if she is a little wacky or unconventional. My favorite movie mom, because she is the one sticking out in my mind right now, would have to be Sybil Stone (Diane Keaton) from "The Family Stone." She is a sassy mother who has no filter. All the woman wants is for her family to be united and supportive of each other. All the while, the woman is battling cancer. I love how she stands up for her son who is gay, proudly shouting (after she throws a fork at him to get his attention, mind you) that she loves him no matter what and that he is more "normal" than any of the assholes (Can I say that on here? Diane Keaton said it, so I will just assume it is a-okay.) at the table. She's this fierce warrior (Think Attila the Hun but much more hygienic with a lot less literal bloodshed) defending her family whose weapon of choice is a bow paired with a sheath of snarky zingers. Plus, it's Diane Keaton!! The woman could recite the 'X' section of the dictionary and move the world to tears. :) -
My favorite mom (besides my own, as you said Ms. Banks :)) would probably have to be Caroline from the Laura Ingalls Wilder books/TV series. She is my favorite, because she cares do much for Charles and her daughter and family. She is a strong woman at times, but she knows when to lay down her strong personality and submit. Call me old-fashioned, but I go with Caroline. -
My favourite mom is Narcissa Malfoy from Harry Potter. She realized how cruel Voldemort was and her one thought was saving Draco. It isn't easy to lie to Voldemort and i really liked the moment when she said "He is death." It isn't known much about the life in Malfoy Manor, but the scene with Severus Snape made me cry. -
wow thats a hard question but i am going to have to go with Reba from the tv show reba.she went through a lot and she was a great mother through it all. she is also very funny and helpful. she is strict when she needs to be. she puts her kids needs above hers and she is protective of them. she is also encouraging and loving :) -
My favorite mom would definitely have to be Kitty Foreman (Debra Jo Rupp) from 'That 70's Show'. Kitty reigns supreme as a maternal figure just by putting up with Red’s snarky attitude. Despite her naivety towards the happenings in her basement she effortlessly cares for an overflowing house full of children with a heart full of love and sharp humor. With an unfaltering upbeat attitude if you cross her she’ll kill you with kindness. Not to mention the woman sings a killer version of ‘Bad Blood’ by Neil Sedaka and Elton John. -
Ok, aside from my own, I think my favorite fictional mom is the mom from A Christmas Story. They said she hadn't eaten a hot meal in years (because she's always taking care of her family first)- and she knows that sometime to get your kid to eat, you have to let them eat like a little piggy! She deals with her cranky husband, and they appear to love each other a lot in spite of the complete craziness of raising two kids and being broke. She seems to really be a support system and the "glue" that keeps the balance in their family- but she also knows how to handle business- and surely will not put up with any misbehaving. She laughs a lot- which, in my opinion, is what keeps you young! She seems like a great mom! -
My all time favorite mother of cinematic lore is the lovely Mrs. Simmons from the movie "Diner". She reminds me of my own mother, lovingly caring for my friends and offering them a bite to eat,as she threatens me with a butcher knife...memories! -
I don't think this competition applies to me as I do not live in the US but my favourite mother, besides my own, would have to be Piper Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs, Charmed). She is a protector. She is a kind-hearted mother. But she also looks like the type of mother who would go to the extent of kicking someone's ass (pardon the Francais) if ANYONE messes with her child. Don't forget, she's a witch so she can freeze, blow up objects and cast spells on enemies. All I'm going to say is... stick to being her friend rather than an enemy. I'm actually making her sound quite violent and monstrous but she's not. Like I said, she's a protector. -
My favorite mother would have to be my grandmother. I don’t know anyone else like her. She’s helped me through so many things in my life. My father is never really around and my mother has always been too busy to pay much mind to me. I may only be eighteen years old but I’ve gone through a lot and my grandmother was always there for me when I needed her. She is one of the most strongest women I know. She’s had to work hard almost her entire life so she could take care of my mother and aunt and had to live in very bad conditions. Even after losing her husband she still stayed strong and I love her so much. I was depressed for a very long time. I’ve had my very low points and had thoughts that I shouldn’t have but she was there for me. Even if it was late at night and I’d be crying I could call her and talk to her and she is always there to listen when I need her. I love how she always visits me and likes to cook for me to help make me feel better. She’s sweet to everyone she knows and even people who haven’t been the best to her she’s always been so forgiving. I love my grandmother <3 -
Well first off, I have to say my mother, she is truly amazing, I gave her such a hard time in HS, I had very many low points with my depression but she was there for me all the way and she still is, I look at her and it makes me want to get through this and be as strong as she is! She is has all the mom quality's that would make the perfect movie mom and she is a blast to hang out with, I have more fun with her then I do my own friends most of the time! haha Plus she's awesome to have a drink with, lets just say my mother can hold her liquor! :) Also, I feel like you would/are and awesome mom! You'd be the mom that all the kids thought was so cool lol but my fav movie mom is a bit of a tough one but I'd have to go with Emma Stone's mom from Easy A, she is just so hilarious!!! I mean she was so loving, understanding and weirdly honest with her kids but it totally worked and I loved it! Also ever thing she said or did, I felt like in most cases it would be embarrassing but it wasn't, it worked so wonderfully. -
Lorelai Gilmore. My parents divorced when I was 7 and after that, I lived with my mom full time. I think the relationship between Lorelai and Rory is so beautiful and mostly realistic. They remind me of my mom and I. -
No way! I love Morticia Addams! I saw The Addams Family on broadway with Brooke Shields playing her and she was freakin' perfect as Morticia. Not to mention perfect in real life when I met her after the show :') Anyway, my favourite mum would have to be, besides my own, Narcissa Malfoy from Harry Potter. She keeps her family together when Voldemort is tearing them apart, she risks her life for her son, she gives him her wand and leaves herself defenceless... ugh, I love her.
Also, I think you're an awesome mum, Elizabeth! Your story about Felix's first taste of sugar was hilarious. :) -
My favorite mother was my aunt Amy. She had the grace, love, and heart that every woman should have or strive for. She showed me love when my family treated me harshly, she took me in when I was lost. She has three beautiful daughters she left behind in the world, they treasured her greatly. She battled cancer for years, breast cancer (survived it) then found out during remission it had been in her lymph nodes spreading it to the vital organs. She hid the pain of knowing her treatment was over, nothing more could be done, a couple months before her passing. She didn't want anyone to be sad, or live differently because of it. She wanted to protect her daughters. When she passed that December I just didn't believe it. Such a beautiful angel heaven was receiving, too soon, and my heart ached. She's a large reason I believe there is a God, people like her have to go somewhere beautiful. She always had family dinners, Christmas dinners, her house was the center of love and family gathering. It feels so empty now there. I will never forget her marvelous spirit and virtuous soul. She's the greatest mother in my eyes. -
Sandra Bullock, mother to adorable Louis! I've always admired her, she is so good-natured and funny, so it came as no surprise to me that she seems like the funnest mom ever! When she took Louis to a pirate-themed birthday party, she went all out. http://media4.onsugar.com/files/2011/10/40/0/192/1922398/e1ead47ed625cdc9_FNP_EW_0240075.preview/i/Sandra-Bullock-Louis-Pirate-Costume-Pictures.jpg
I also love that crazy mom on Gossip Girl, Lily, but I wouldn't call her a good mom by any stretch of the imagination! -
My favorite tv mom is Marie Barone (Doris Roberts) from Everybody Loves Raymond because she reminds me of my mom and grandmother rolled into one. She had the right type of noisy/worry that my mom and grandmother have.
In real life, I actually (very honestly) like the author of What To Expect. Without her book, I would have been lost as a stay-at-home parent. -
My favorite Mom always is Beverly D'Angelo playing Ellen the wife of Clark Griswold in National Lampoons! That poor mom had to dress as a pig, was filmed in the shower and deal with the in-laws during Christmas with a squirrel and dog trashing her house! And through that she still kept her wits and made it all better by figuring out each problem like how to get the Christmas lights ablaze! Got to love her! -
Besides my own mother(that goes without saying) my favorite mom is Lorelai Gilmore. She shows how much a mom will go to make her and her daughter's dreams come true. She worked hard and did everything she could to make a better life for her daughter. She is a great representation of a strong, hard working, modern mom. -
My favorite fictional mom is Sally Field's character in the movie Steel Magnolias, M'Lynn Eatenton. She was a perfect example of a strong woman. There were times of struggle for her, but at the end of each one she would come out stronger. "Life goes on" she says, and indeed it does. -
Besides my own of course. I'm going fictional going with M'Lynn Eatenton from Steel Magnolias. She is a mom of triumph and courage. She takes the good with the bad in stride and even let's just enough steam blow to know she means business. She a true southern mama with just enough spunk to know to leave well enough alone. -
It’s hard to choose another mom over my real mom, because very few can match up to her. There is one woman, however, who comes incredibly close. Her name is Laraine and she is like a second mom to me and so many others. There was a long period of time when I was away from my family and Laraine took me in and made me a part of hers. She pushed me to be the best person I could be and inspired me to see beyond my own world view. She selflessly gave so much to others, never once thinking about herself. A person like her should never have to go through hard times, but she did. Her own daughter was diagnosed with cancer around the same time her pathetic husband left her for someone else. And even in her darkest hours, when she had every right to, I never once saw her lose faith. She carried on by herself and helped her daughter SURVIVE THREE cancer relapses! And after everything, she never once stopped opening up her heart and her home to all of us who needed it! That is true mom in every sense of the word! The world is definitely a better place because she is in it! -
My favorite Mom of all time is non other then my own mom, Ms. Ellie Laura. She is truly an inspiration that the world has never met. This has been a rough start to 2012 for our family (I was laid off in January & the house my Mom was renting out burned down in February - she didn't have renters insurance), but through it all she's remained incredibly strong. There's something special about a women who has lost practically every material item she has, but still remains positive that everything will be just fine. I want to give my mother the world as it would be just the start of what she deserves. As of right now all I have to offer her is my love and support. I truly hope one day I can be at least half the parent she is. No amount of weights I lift in the gym will ever make me as strong as she is. -
My mother, hands down. This past Sunday, Mothers' Day, I graduated from the University of North Carolina and for 3 of my 4 years my mother has survived 6 separate instances of cancer. First it was breast cancer, then 5 bouts of skin cancer, and she has yet to complain. A woman in her late fifties (shhhh don't tell her I told you) has had 2 gaping holes in her leg, holes reaching the bone that were stuffed with the medical equivalent of packing peanuts; nevertheless, she went back to her nursing position the day after surgery. She may be a tiny woman, but she is the strongest woman I know. I'm honored to be her daughter.
