Feelin’ swanky? New shirt maybe? New haircut? The girl or guy said yes to that date idea of yours? Celebrate at happy hour with an Old Fashioned. A delicious, bourbon-based cocktail, given its name in the 1880’s at a gentlemen’s club in Louisville, Kentucky. That sounds ‘bout right.
And although this sounds like an ad, it's just because I'm inspired by the fact that Don Draper drinks 'em. Maybe you should too. Here's how:
Ingredients:
¼ ounce simple syrup
2-3 dashes of bitters
citrus peel
2 ounces of rye whiskey or bourbon
This is how the pros do it:
What do you order at happy hour?

@Bree: You are talking my language now! Slainte! Ah, the water of life! Michael Collins is quite lovely. Any others you tipple? -
One of my favorite cocktails! If you have the time, you can also make your own simple syrup - it's just one part water to one part sugar, dissolved. Or use two sugar cubes, muddled with a slice of orange in the bottom of your glass. -
@Dec: I'm Protestant and I detest Bushmills. Jameson neat is the only way to go. :) Although Michael Collins is a treat, as well. -

Jameson Whiskey Neat. No Bushmills. Blame it on my Catholic upbringing, but I was taught the Bushmills was for the Protestants. -
