Shake, Shake, Shake on New Year’s Eve!

Dec 26, 2012 at 6:07am by Megan Blanchard

Guest blogger Megan goes country for New Year’s Eve. I want to know what you’re doing too. Share in the comments! Xx EB

This post is inspired by Mixtape Mixology by Eugene Lee, a bartender at Big Bar in LA’s Los Feliz neighborhood. Each week, he creates a downloadable playlist and if you live in LA, you can hear his latest mix every Thursday night at Big Bar. I’ve created my own version for a very country New Year’s Eve celebration. Kick up your heels and keep your flask handy.

    A New Year’s Eve Hoedown

    1.  “I’m a Ramblin Man” Waylon Jennings

    2.  “Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That” Dolly Parton

    3.  “Jackson” Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash

    4.  “Tennessee Waltz” Sam Cooke version

    5.  “Coal Miner’s Daughter” Loretta Lynn

    6.  “White Lightnin’” George Jones

    7.  “You Got It” Roy Orbison

    8.  “Walking After Midnight” Patsy Cline

    9.  “Barroom Girls” Doug Jeffords

    10.  “Bloody Mary Morning” Willie Nelson

Download my NYE Hoedown Playlist on Spotify.

An Old Fashioned Bowl of Punch

It’s not a hoedown without a steady supply of bourbon. I like this punch recipe by bartender Matt Wallace of The Famous in Glendale:

    Fancy Bourbon Punch

    The What

    • 1 liter bourbon
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • Peels of 3 lemons and 1 orange
    • Juice of peeled fruit
    • 1 liter of strong tea (preferably green tea)
    • 250 ml champagne (club soda can be used for a less fancy version)
    • Freshly grated nutmeg

    Instructions here.

Make your own NYE mixtape on Spotify, and tell me what you plan to drink with it in the comments below!

Or you can just funnel some Makers into a flask and spend the night with your collection of rare LPs ← what I’m really doing on NYE.

Great punch formula! It's very boozy so everyone should be in party spirits in no time. Love it!

P.S. Can I come to your place for New Years? :^)
