Our next brand-new guest blogger Katie (aka Kitty Boo) comes bearing some great ideas for a movie-watching party. What a great idea for getting together in this cold weather! Why don't I think of this stuff? Enjoy her words. Xx EB

The weather outside is frightful so why not cozy up on the couch with a great movie? Not so fast! Step away from the Snuggie. Instead of hibernating all winter long, why not invite some friends over and make a night of it? Here are some great movies, all found on Netflix’s Instant Watch, and party ideas to keep your social life hot in spite of the wool-socks weather.
The Movie: Jiro Dreams of Sushi (2011)
This movie isn’t just for foodies. Jiro Dreams of Sushi chronicles a lifetime of passion and one man’s pursuit of perfection. 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono is considered a national treasure in Japan where his tiny sushi shop serves up bite-sized bits of heaven.|
The Party: Sushi Shindig
It’s safe to say that Jiro probably won’t approve of your creations (his apprentices must spend ten years mastering rice before they move on to fish cuts!), but that doesn’t make them any less fun to make! Gather up some friends, some seaweed, and pile into the kitchen to try your hand at taming sticky rice. Try some of these beginner-friendly recipes:
- Cucumber and Avocado Sushi from Allrecipes.com
- Quinoa Sushi Rolls from Wholesome Cook
- Party Sushi from Rachel Ray
The Movie: Paris is Burning (1990)

One of my all-time favorite documentaries, Paris is Burning, chronicles the 1980s New York drag scene. The film brings you way underground for a front row seat at drag balls and the birth of Voguing.
The Party: Clothing Swap
Category is: clothing swap! Have your friends clean out their closets and bring their cast-offs to the party. You know what they say: one girl’s trash is another’s new favorite belt! Runway walks are mandatory.
For more tips on how to throw successful clothing swap, check out Brokelyn.com’s rules.
The Movie: Slither (2006)

Starring our girl Elizabeth Banks and dreamy Nathan Fillion, Slither is an homage to classic, icky B-movies full of moments that are equal parts gross and gleeful. When a mysterious meteor crashes to earth, the citizens of Wheelsy are pitted against a plague of slithering alien worms.
Make the night a double feature and watch Starship Troopers, another alien bug-squishing cult masterpiece.
The Party: Mock Drive-In
It’s off-season for the drive-in, but don’t let that stop you from recreating the summer staple in your living room! Start the movie after sunset and don’t let anyone turn on the lights. Instead, hand out flashlights to your guests to keep the atmosphere going. Pop plenty of popcorn and serve them in pretty bags (Oh Happy Days’ has a great retro-looking free printable template). Make sure you have a concession stand fully stocked with candy and tons of blankets to cuddle under (or pull over your head at the scary parts).
Which of these movie parties is up your alley?
