"I find the same thing sexy in a man now as I always have: humor. I love it when they are funny. It's to die for." - Diane Keaton
Agreed. Pretty much, everything Diane Keaton does is totally agreeable to me. How can you argue with somebody so cool? The unique sense of style. The flirty fun she always seems to be having in every role, not to mention with every co-star (Jack, Al, Warren B!) This woman is one of my professional heroes.
She won an Oscar for playing a comedic romantic lead in Annie Hall. She won it for being real and funny and heartbreaking. For me, that's the bee's knees. On top of which, she's a fashion pioneer. She rocked menswear before the term was even coined.

Her signature thick, dark-rimmed glasses, over-sized accessories, vintage vests, and high-wasted trousers in Annie Hall are as hot today as they were then. Have you seen Rachel Bilson? Hipsters, you’re welcome.
It's important to have role models in life. I happen to be an actress so it happens that some of my role models are big-time famous actresses. If I was a lawyer, my role model would be Sandra Day O'Connor. You know what, she is one of my role models. I think I just nailed down Part 2!
In summary, for me, Diane Keaton is boss. She doesn't seem to take herself too seriously, she held her own with Woody, she danced with Bette, she lives her life for her, she develops real estate and has crazy cool style - yeah, I bought a pillow from her Bed Bath & Beyond collection - and she got naked on camera at age 57 (in Something's Gotta Give).
And she's aging gracefully which is the last great virtue left for ladies, in my opinion. Of plastic surgery, she's said: "I'm stuck in this idea that I need to be authentic ... My face needs to look the way I feel." Authentic! Now, that's inspiring to me.
So identify some role models for yourself. And aim high. May they be as chic, witty, talented and humble as Diane Keaton.
And if you are reading this and you are Diane Keaton, thank you for taking the time and please can we have lunch?
Who are some of your role models?

In recent years, Diane von Furstenburg has become my inspiration. Which is completely surprising to me because my fashion sense seems to be having absolutely none. I also work in science-y stuff (yes, that's the technical term) so you'd think I'd say Marie Curie or, I don't know, someone who invented beakers. But a few years back I remember seeing Diane in an ad for American Express, and with one simple statement, she became my hero:
"I didn't really know what I wanted to do, but I knew the woman I wanted to become." -
i loved Diane Keaton in the godfather she made me cry...mrs elizabeth you are my role model, you love to write, you are fashinista, you also inspired me to understand more to my boyfriend, and i admire you as a mother keep going!! love from Ecuador! -
My role model is Natalie Portman. She's smart, nice, down to earth, talented, beautiful, amazing actress ! -
There are so many inspiring women out there. Making a change for the better from the movie star who sets a positive example to Sandra Fluke who took a stand on pro-birth control. One of my favorites is Amelia Earhart who stood tall during a time when that was not considered lady like.
All are inspiring to me. Including you Elizabeth! -
I have had the bigggest crush on Keaton for pretty much my whole life. And I am 23 right now. She is funny, sexy, smart, and a little off beat. Her work in the film Reds is one of the greatest performances ever.
My role models, well, as an actor/writer/director and person they are very different and tend to change on whichever subject I am focused on. I actually dont have a lot of personal role models, which is kinda depressing. But, my artistic side has dozens. -
1. Audrey Hepburn - She was the epitome of lady-like elegance and grace, and REAL, enduring fashion.
2. Keira Knightley - She also refuses to let people change her looks; in fact, I think she sued a marketing company for giving her a larger bosom for the King Arthur posters. Also, she overcame dyslexia when she was younger and though she still reads slowly, she said she reads whatever she can because her education is up to her. That's personal empowerment.
3. Younger actresses/entrepreneurs like Felicia Day and Ashley Eckstein who are doing things their way and making the world better for geek gals like us. -
My friend and I went to go see Diane Keaton on her book tour this January and she was nothing but the epitome of cool. I'll always remember her saying the first words out of her mouth to me were, "Oh my god, you are so tall". My friend asked her to sign her copy of the book to her adopted daughter and for the next couple of minutes she and Diane had an indepth conversation about the joys of adoption. My friend was on cloud 9. Anyways - Diane was freaking awesome. -
Well, first off, you : ) You inspire me so much!! And seem like a really awesome person. Second, Julia Roberts. I freakin love her. She is amazing in every way shape and form. Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence, Marilyn Monroe (even though she's dead) and all other ladies that aren't concerned about body image, and pleasing everyone. That's what's special to me.
