This week, I’m guest blogging for iVillage. Here’s an excerpt from the first installment!

Spring break is here and for many people, that means a vacation. I've been on some lovely vacations in some really nice places but the quality of my vacations has deteriorated in the past few years. I've lost sight of how to truly vacate my work life and just relax.
For instance, over the holidays, I took a "vacation." I put the word in quotes because it was not quite a vacation and also because, let's face it, vacation means different things to different folks. Some people take very ACTIVE vacations. And others take super LAZY vacations. For me, the best vacations are a combo. They entail rest, relaxation, fun and, usually, some form of recreation -- swimming, scuba diving, skiing, hiking the Alps. (I don't know why I put the Alps on that list, since I've never been there, but if I vacationed near them, I would want tohike them.) No matter which type you take, at the end, you should come homerefreshed, reinvigorated, and really tan.
My holiday vacation just left me EXHAUSTED. When I arrived back home, all I felt was...I need a vacation after that vacation.

There is a song that describes exactly how you feel upon a return from such a lovely trip as you describe. It is by a band out of British Columbia called Spirit of the West. The song is called "Home for a Rest". Might I suggest that you request it late one night if you happen to be in the Great White North near last call and see what happens.... Here is the chorus, which should tell you all you need to know...
You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a week, I've been drunk since I left
These so-called vacations will so be my death
I'm so sick from the drink, I need home for a rest...
This is not to imply you are pissed on the junkets, but you get the idea...

I do not understand how can you resist. The year 2011 was intense. Your first child is born, you played a number of films, you produced a movie, you have participated in the premiere in the States and Europe. How do you handle this? You risk a breakdown. Take a vacation with your family, come in Italy, come to Cortina. on the Alps
