Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer of American women? Did you know that red is my favorite color? Well, then it’s probably not hard to see why I’m a fan of the American Heart Association’s effort to educate women about their hearts through Go Red for Women. Look! Here's a glitzy picture of me wearing their iconic red dress at a party all about aortas and ventricles: This isn’t just a post for the ladies. Men - you love us and want us to stick around a while so take a look at my short film “Just a Little Heart Attack”. If you see your lady exhibiting any of these behaviors cut her some slack, help a sister out and have her go get tested!
Let’s get real. While researching this film, a prominent female cardiac surgeon (apparently women make awesome doctors) told me that she rarely performs heart surgery on women. In fact, 75% of heart-related surgeries are done on men. But it's not because women have less heart disease. It's because women don't make it to the table.
I'm a working mom now which makes it extra-important to know my heart health and extra-difficult to get it together to see the Dr. But, it must be done. Do it. Seriously, make the appointment right now. Ok, fine, send yourself an email to make the appointment. I'll take that.
Now, I know you want more details, so head over to the Go Red For Women site to get loaded with life-changing info. Then pass it on!
Have any of the women in your life had a heart-related heath issue? Was it a wake up call for you? How do you find ways to relax? Leave me some wisdom in the comments.

Wow! She has to be one of the greatest Mommy's ever because she put her kids before herself, even when she was not feeling well. Her son is smart too! Some times the kids are the ones whom has to be the adult. Eating oatmeal is a gud way to go! Thank you very much and please eat well, get plenty of excercise, and do not forget to have fun!:))) -
This is wonderful...thanks for sharing it!! Your humor is outstanding in this situation and I really have to laugh due to seeing so much of myself it it.
Unfortunately, in my case, I only suffered "indigestion" and no other symptoms, so I never in a million years would think that I was having a heart attack at 36 years old. I was a healthy, single mother of 2 who ran every day, low cholesterol, low blood pressure, no family history, never smoked, not on the pill, etc. I eventually went into cardiac arrest at home, died several times, was put into a hypothermic coma, and woke up a few days later wondering what the hell had happened to me.
I was dubbed "the miracle girl" by my doctors, am still healthy, and even with the numerous hospital bills, doctor bills, medicine costs, and new issues I have to deal with due to my experience last year...I am grateful every day to be alive and with my family. Thanks again! -

is an interesting video on the heart, but most of the diseases in women are due to lack of iron in blood, it causes the waste to be leven cholesterol, acid and water to evaporate, therefore, myocardial ... less fats in foods, less salt, sugar and more iron, zero water and exercise from time to time is one way ... -
This is adorable. I am going to share with all the woman I love, and also start taking better care of myself. This has been a long time coming for me, I realize as I grow older that several family members of died of heart attacks. I might too.
Is that your real hub? -
I'm not sure if you remember me (Michalski was the maiden name) from high school. We were in the same home room and AP US history with Mr. Regan. First, congrats on all of your success. It's a long way from Pittsfield. I saw your video about heart attacks on Boston news this evening and wanted to thank you for giving attention to this matter. It is amazing that heart attacks have been one of the leading causes of death and yet the symptoms for women have been ignored or confused for so long. Everything we have heard and have been taught has been for men. Gee, what a surprise. Also, my daughter will be amazed that I actually know someone starring in the movie she looks forward to - The Hunger Games. -
Awesome video! Nice work! As a middle-aged man, you can bet I take care of my ticker as well. Any education is good education. -
I wanted to thank you for your film, "Just A Little Heart Attack". My son posted the link: goredfor women.org on his Facebook page on Monday, 1/31/11. You see, I had a heart attack that day. I saw my son's posting the next day and watched your film---and cried buckets. My symptoms were exactly as yours in the film. While I was dithering about whether or not I should have my husband drive me to the ER (what if it was a false alarm?, would I be wasting someone's time?É) he called 911. EMTs came, got to the hospital and had an emergency stent because there was a 99% blockage in one of my coronary arteries. I was one of the lucky ones---I had a whole bunch of people who saved my life that day. I will gratefully share your film with every human being I know or have ever met. Thanks so much, Elizabeth. Remember, take good care of yourself. -
Wanted to congratulate you on a great video. I did a sponsorship on behalf of my company with the AHA, and part of our benefit is having use of your video to broadcast across our company to promote heart health awareness. We are driving traffic to our company's website so our employees, their family members, our customers and other members of the community can see your video and share with the important women in their lives to keep them healthy and free of heart disease. -
Elizabeth,
Great video . . .really shows how heart attack symptoms in women differ from those experienced by men. Thanks for your support of the Go Red campaign. -
Learn how to meditate. I learned how to transcend dental medication back in the sixties. See some stories about the brain coherent meditative state at:

Just don't wear a heart shaped necklace, bracelet or ring because someone may come up to you and say "I see you have a heart on". -
Thanks for bringing attention to this important issue and making me laugh at the same time.
