Steph here is part of Team Elizabeth. She helps me make sure that this site is running smoothly, that we have some fun guest blogs, and that all of you guys get your prizes (if you don’t get your shiz, feel free to yell at her. But not really.). She’s a self-proclaimed nerd and spends all day crawling the web so she’ll be bringing you some fun geeky stuff from time to time. Hope you enjoy! XX -EB

Hi guys! Nice to “meet” you! If you’ve won a contest or guest blogged here before, you may have heard from me. If not, say hello in the comments below so I can get friendly with all of you! But not in a creepy way…
I’d like to think that my social life takes precedent over what’s on television, but let me get real with you. Sometimes it doesn’t. Thank God for DVR and Hulu or I’d never leave the house. And I cannot contain my excitement for the upcoming fall TV lineup. I’m pretty much going to start blocking out my TV schedule now. And here’s why:

Revolution on NBC (Premieres Monday, Sept 17th at 10/9c)
J.J. Abrams, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. As the executive producer of Lost, he ruled over one of my favorite shows ever. And let’s take a moment to get nostalgic: which of you 90’s kids loved Felicity? Did you know that J.J. produced that too? I’m currently re-watching season 1 and it’s still as great as ever. That’s why when Abrams brings me something new, it makes me giddy. This one is post-apocalyptic, but not monster or Zombie-related. It includes a great cast (Billy Burke from Twilight, Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad, and Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost among others) and it’s about the modern world’s worst nightmare – the entire world loses electricity and the show picks up 15 years later. It also sounds very Hunger Games-y as strong-willed heroine “Charlie” tries to save the world with her bow and arrows.

The Mindy Project on Fox (Premieres Tuesday, September 25th at 9:30/8:30c)
I can’t shut up about this one—I’ve been telling everyone I know. Mindy Kaling creates, writes, produces, and stars in this show about a single doctor who is a total mess in her personal life. You might know Mindy as Kelly Kapoor of The Office or possibly as the author of her hilarious autobiography Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) which is next on my book list. This woman’s creativity has no bounds. Plus the exec. producer of the pilot is B.J. Novak, who also produces The Office. Deal, sealed.

The New Normal on NBC (Tuesdays at 9:30/8:30c)
I have a hard time admitting this, but I do love Glee. Now Glee creator Ryan Murphy is crafting a new comedy about a same-sex couple and the surrogate/aspiring lawyer/struggling single mom who is carrying their child. So basically… two gay dads and a baby mama. Sounds like Modern Family meets Baby Mama, which I endorse on all levels.
Of course, I’m excited to see some of my favorite shows come back on the air. My fav show 30 Rock returns for its final season (*sniff sniff*) where we’ll get to see a guest spot from Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston, The Office for it’s last season (what will I do without my favorite NBC comedies?!), and The Walking Dead, which I love because it scares the shit out of me. Also, Parenthood, The New Girl, and Modern Family. How do I have time for all this TV?
What new shows / returning shows are you excited for?

I knew nothing about Revolution! I loved Lost, so I am having high hopes for this show. Wish me luck as watch the premiere that I somehow missed to begin with! -
I have a new show I need to add to this list! I had read about it and didn't think twice because, um, it's Matthew Perry and he as an actor is a little dated, but after watching it last night, I can firmly say that Go On http://www.nbc.com/go-on/ is FANTASTIC. I would say, probably better than any of these (after watching all of the pilots as well as Animal Hospital [which is oookay] and the premiere of Parenthood). It has the PERFECT mix of funny, witty, and sincere. Put that one on the top of your list!!
Also...
@vchick sadly I do have to agree with you about the pilot of Revolution. I have hope though! I'll stick it out for a few episodes and see if it gets better. But you're right, it doesn't have the same cinematic quality that LOST did so well
@Michael Moran It is interesting that the "bigot" is one of the more entertaining things about The New Normal so far, but I think the cultural "saving grace" is that she is the comedic relief. I don't think anyone identifies with her. They just thank goodness that they're NOT her. Or they see her as being like someone horrible they know. They're vilifying the bigot, which is a good thing, right?
@Phoebe couldn't agree more with how sad I am to lose 30 Rock. It's clearly the best show on the air. I've been re-watching it from Season 1... for the 3rd, maybe 4th time? -

I hadn't heard of Revolution or The New Normal before this post (probably because Australia lives back in the 1800s and gets the majority of American tv shows 6 months after they initially air) but they look good. I'm excited for The Mindy Project! Mindy is hilarious!
And *sob* I am awaiting 30 Rock's last season.
I'm mostly looking forward to new Modern Family, Bones and Grey's Anatomy though. Oh and Downton Abbey! :D -
Well, Michael, I agree, there is too much to read and too much to write. Social Security is my only income thanks to the Bush Bust. My banks destroyed my life's savings, such is life sometimes. So I keep pounding out magazine articles and whatever newspaper assignments I can scrounge up. Plus I'm finally writing the book I've had in the works for a couple of years. Life's too danged much FUN to waste on the tube...except when I need a good laugh. Ciao! -
Hey fellow scientist! I watch very little television too. Nova and the various BBC mystery series are about it. I also watch Disney Channel with my 10 year old daughter when we are hanging out.
There is just too much other material I need to take in to keep my work going to spend much on television. -
Having been born BTV--before television--I never got into the habit of spending hours in front of the tube. Mind you, I do watch the thing, but when a program I'm interested in is over, I turn the receiver off. I realize that I probably just offended some people who keep their sets on 24-7-365, but dang, I have a life and it isn't based on TV.
As a scientist, I'm more interested in science-based programs than anything else, but admit to loving SouthPark, and the Simpsons. Even a nerdette needs some yocks at times.
Enjoy the new season!! -

Thanks for the info Steph!
I cannot wait for New Girl to return! My favorite show!!
Looking forward to The Mindy Project & Revolution!
I don't actually have cable, but I have the channel apps on my phone, then watch them on the tv via apple tv! Safes a lot of money! And we have a digital attena for some live tv! Just saying all this if people want to cut down their tv bill ;) it works for us! -
'The New Normal' is the clear winner here. It has a chance to loosen up those folks who are still a little skittish about the whole people in love with people who are the same gender thing. But probably won't do a thing for the people who are hard core against people in love with people who are the same gender because of course they are themselves people who would be in love with people who are the same gender were it not for some ill advised beliefs they have about 'God' and their own carnal desires.
[ParagraphBreak]
That said, the part of the surrogate's mother - the bigot - is the real spice in the show and ridiculing her mercilessly over her beliefs will be what makes it succeed, and I'm not sure how I feel about this. Because these people do a good deal of damage to the innocent and therefore seem to have earned their day of pillory. But on the other hand a part of me has compassion for them because they are such a fucking mess on the inside and would be so much happier if they could just except their desire to get naked with people of their own gender rather than condemn it and with it everyone else who does so and is happy because of it.
[ParagraphBreak]
I think the solution lies in all the rest of us responding to the bigots with kind and open hearts and telling *them* that it's ok to accept their desire to make love to people of their own gender. And never get angry or short with them but rather just keep repeating the message that it is a good for them thing to accept that side of themselves. Then again that would make really crappy television. -
"The New Normal" looks the most appealing to me, but I'll watch them all to see what they're like.
BTW, Steph, I love watch both new shows and reruns of old ones on TNT. -
Hello Steph, it's nice to meet you :)
I am definitely looking forward to Revolution! I've been a fan of JJ Abrams since forever and I've loved most of his shows! Hearing that Elizabeth Mitchell will be playing in it as well was a major plus for me (that means I will probably continue watching it even if it turns out to be a shitty show; but it won't; it can't). Cannot wait for September 17th!
Never heard about the other two but after seeing the promos I am going to give them a try. They seem really hilarious, so why not.
I'm really excited about Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Body of Proof and Once Upon a Time coming back! Also CSI NY and Hot in Cleveland. How do I have a life again? -
-
Hey there, Steph! I hate to admit it, when I was growing up, I *loved* watching the new season promo shows they'd air, back before the era of infomercials. I was intrigued by all three of these shows - and thanks to the miracle of Internet streaming, have seen all of these first episodes! I think they're still on the network sites, or Hulu if anyone's looking for them.
New Normal - I loved it, Ellen Barkin is just too good at the crazy, and even with the eccentrics around her, the single mom at the heart of it wins you over.
Mindy Project - Mindy has left the Office and taken the funny with her! And yummy Chris Messina brightens everything he does.
Revolution - Okay, I'm a J.J. Abrams fan too, so I was sorely disappointed. Great concept, but at least from the first episode, there was no real story or characters to care about. Basically, the opposite of Lost. And, excuse me, but no electricity for 15 years, but why does the cast look like an ad for an Urban Outfitters line of Hunger Games tie-in clothing?
Returning drama I'm looking forward to: Parenthood. What a cast, plus Jason Katims writing (of Friday Night Lights and, hooyah, My So-Called Life fame). Peter Krause and Lauren Graham, enough said.
Returning comedy I most miss: Parks and Recreation! Because it's still woefully underappreciated. Never fails to crack me up.
Alright, back to the so-called grind. Happy Monday! -
