My, how time flies! It seems like just yesterday they were caking make-up on my face and I was yelling about mahogany. Now the day has come—you can bring The Hunger Games into your home. Just the Blu-Ray or DVD version, please. Extreme sibling rivalry not condoned.
It’ll hit shelves on August 18 at midnight and include three hours of bonus material with an eight-part behind-the-scenes documentary called The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games. The Blu-Ray version will even come with an additional exclusive feature, “Preparing for the Games: A Director’s Process,” where you will get to see how the important scenes from the book were adapted for the screen.
Oh, you want to know how to win a signed copy? Right, right, let’s get down to business. Here’s how:
In the comments below, tell me which was your favorite scene of the movie (aka which you’re excited to watch 12,043 times once you get your hands on a copy). Six winners will be chosen at random to win!
May the odds be ever in your favor!

Strangely enough, my favorite scene in the film is the scene in which we see Seneca Crane discover the bowl of nightlock berries. I think I love it because it was so completely unexpected, yet so perfect. Watching this scene for the first time, I was so shocked and horrified I felt like I'd been punched in the gut. (And hearing strains of "Abraham's Daughter" in the background only served to magnify the intensity of the moment.) I remember just sitting there with my mouth hanging open, unable to process what was happening. Adding this scene was sheer genius, so thank you to Gary Ross or whoever it was that came up with the idea!

I rented a Blu-Ray copy from our local video store on Tuesday morning. I watched it again with my daughter (10) who loves it. Then I got down to the serious business of watching all the supplemental material on the Special Features disk and watched the movie through again for the forth time - I saw it twice at the theater. I can't come up with a favorite scene from the movie there are so many great and precious moments. I do have a favorite from the Special Features where Woody gestures to Elizabeth and says (approximately), "She and I were ready to take it way over the top all the time. Fortunately we have Gary here..." You two were completely committed to the seriousness of your characters but obviously having a blast playing them. There is a very short take in the film of Elizabeth (wearing green I think) leading the tributes through their apartment where she has a smile on her face and her arms are tucked closely to her side, elbows bent, fists out, as she shuffles forward in her pencil skirt thoroughly delighted. No words, but a wonderful sense of how completely she subscribes to the Capitol mind set, oblivious to the horror her charges feel. And while I'm on the special features, no one should miss, "Letter from the Rose Garden". Donald Sutherland and Gary Ross discussing a letter Donald wrote to Gary after he got the part describing his view of the psychology of President Snow. Genius. It's interesting that after watching hours of supplemental material I have a very good sense of how Gary Ross goes about making a movie - he is very meticulous. Yet I have no idea at all whether I would enjoy going out for a beer with him. Random thought: Elizabeth and Woody are a contemporary version of Myrna Loy and William Powell. They should remake 'The Thin Man' together. (I would have tweeted this, but Woody isn't on Twitter.) Some standout scenes from The Hunger Games, in no particular order: Rue's death. Katniss shoots the apple out of the pig's mouth and bows. Kato falling apart emotionally as he holds Peeta by the neck. How Effie handles it when the crowd does not applaud but rather gives the District 12 salute. Katniss and Prim saying goodbye. Everything with Snow in it. Everything with Effie in it. Everything with Haymitch in it. It's hard to make a list like this for a movie which has only two very tiny flaws in it and so many excellent scenes. I worry about Catching Fire as the director is not nearly so experienced, and has never made a film with this level of emotional, and political, complexity.

My favorite scenes were the ones when we got to go behind the scenes with the Gamemakers- it really showed how detached they were from the fact that these were actual people in the arena who would either be killed by one another or by whatever the Gamemakers created, and that this really was just an entertaining game to them. It added an extra layer of creepy to the storyline, since that was something that we didn't get to see in the book due to it being told just from Katniss' perspective.

My favorite scene is when Katniss is placed in front of the judges to show off what skills she can bring to the arena. Because the judges do not expect a victor from District 12, they completely ignore her. But Katniss, who has used her bow and arrows to more or less survive in her district, demands their attention when she shoots an arrow through their roasted pig, proving that she is a force to be reckoned with. Then she gives a dramatic bow and leaves with a sarcastic comment. She isn't there because she wants to be, she is there because she would rather sacrifice herself than her sister, and she isn't afraid to let everyone know how much she disagrees with the Games.

My favorite part has to be the car ride to the train after the reaping. It really shows a lot about Peeta and Katniss just by showing Peeta bawling and Katniss refusing to show any emotion at all. It gives incredible insight into how each of them are going to approach the games. And they best part is that it does all of this without saying anything.

Peeta's interview, where he FINALLY reveals his crush. I have no skill with females either, and even I think waiting 11 years is embarrassing. Lucky for him he got away with being better late than never.

my favorite scene is when Katniss is being interviewed onstage and you see her kind of realizing that these people are after some sort of glamorous image and totally detached from the world she is having to deal with. She looks like a deer emerging from the woods and seeing civilization for the first time. -

My favorite part is when Katniss and Peeta are in the cave and Katniss is taking care of him. You can really tell she's having some huge inner controversy about her feelings for him. And I love when she finally kisses him! Sooooo adorable! -

IT'S GOTTA BE WHEN SHE SHOTS THE ARROW IN THE PIG, AND EVERYONE ALL SHOCKED THAT SHE DARE DO THAT...HAHA THAT WAS AWESOME. PLUS, ANY SCENES WITH ELIZABETH BANKS. -
my favourite part was the chariot parade, how all the tributes looked in their wonderful costumes:Glimmer in her elegant regal feathery pink costume,or Cato all dressed in metal or something.
and i just really like how Peeta tries to hold Katnisses hand, and
how Caeser says things: there they are! the district 12 tributes!
...theres the hunger games spirit!...their saying,...look at us!...we're from district 12 and we're proud! i just really love that! -
Oh no!!:( I don't want to be late. Darn it. Ok ok I'll do it anyways lol my favorite scene, well I have a lot I loaf the whole movie!! But I really liked the rue scene I thought that was just amazingly done and sososososooo beautiful. Then after when I'm assuming is rues dad got mad at then district 11 was all mad and that part just made me cry so hard in the book and movie, the way how amazing Suzanne described it was utter amazing. She did it so perfectly so that readers could understand. I know it sounds weird that rues death scene is my favorite lol but I just thought they did an amazing job on it and it was so beautiful and lol this is really hard to explain but yeah:) don't forget to try asking the director for catching fire to have your name been saiden!!(because some people that haven't read the book don't know your name) :) LOAF ya!!<3 -
My favorite part is when Katniss and Peeta come out on their chariot because even though they're district twelve everyone starts laying attention to them instead of the other tributes showing that district twelve has a chance this year. -

I love the scene where Katniss and Peeta are in the cave together because even though Katniss is faking the whole time, you get to see Peeta's true feelings about Katniss. It's sweet how much Peeta care about each other. Peeta has loved Katniss ever since he first saw her. I also really love when the both were about to eat the nightlock berries, which forced the capitol to make them both victors. I really didn't want to see either one of them die. I also really tried hard not to cry during Rue's death scene, the bond between Katniss and Rue is almost like that of two best friends. I also really liked it when Haymitch was laughing at the fact that Katniss shot an arrow at the gamemakers and he said " what did you say, 'thanks for your consideration'?" I thought that was funny. My and friends and i were laughing at that part when we went to see it in theaters. I listed so many scenes because this is a really awesome film overall and i'd definately reccomend seeing it at least once. -
I would want to watch the part when Katniss buries Rue in the flowers and District 11 salutes her because that part really shows the love that the audience will have for Rue and Katniss. It shows that Katniss really cared for Rue because she reminded her of her sister Prim 12,043 times if I get this mpvie. -
When Haymitch tells Katniss good job for shooting the arrow at the gamemakers and when Haymitch tells Katniss how nice her dress is but not Effie's even though it was a nice dress. -
My favorite part is Katniss taking her sister's place in the hunger games. It showed how much she loves her sister. I watched the movie with my sister and we have a similar relationship to Katniss and her sister. -
ALL OF THE SCENES IN THE HUNGER GAMES ARE MY FAVOURITE, BUT IF I HAD TO PICK JUST ONE, IT WOULD BE THE REAPING OF THE 74TH ANNUAL HUNGER GAMES! I CHOSE THIS PARTICULAR SCENE BECAUSE IT IS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ONE OF THEM ALL! WITHOUT THIS PART, PRIMROSE EVERDEEN'S NAME WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN PULLED FROM THE REAPING BALL, AND HER OLDER SISTER, KATNISS EVERDEEN, WOULD HAVE NEVER COURAGEOUSLY VOLUNTEERED AS TRIBUTE IN PLACE OF HER! WHEN THIS SCENE WAS BORN, SO WAS THE REST OF THE HUNGER GAMES, CATCHING FIRE, AND MOCKINGJAY! THIS SENDS OFF MANY VIBES LIKE SUSPENSE, BRAVERY, AND IS FULL OF TENSE! WHEN THIS SIXTEEN YEAR OLD STANDS UP FOR, AND RISKS HER LIFE FOR HER 12 YEAR OLD SISTER, IT REALLY MAKES YOU STOP AND CONCENTRATE ON HOW BIG OF A MOTION THAT IS! I REPLAY THIS SCENE OVER AND OVER IN MY MIND AND EVEN NOW, I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT! THAT'S HOW SPECTACULAR IT REALLY IS! THIS EVENT IN THIS AMAZING STORY BY SUZANNE COLLINS REALLY GOT TO MY HEART, AS WELL AS MY MIND! WHILE IT WAS HAPPENING, THE SECONDS TICKED BY SO SLOWLY, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH I HAVE READ THE TRILOGY AND KNEW WHAT WAS HEADING TOWARDS ME, IT WAS STILL JUST AS SHOCKING! AS I AM WRITING THIS NOW, I AM STILL REPLAYING THAT SCNENE OVER AND OVER IN MY MIND! ANOTHER SCENE I REALLY LOVE AND ENJOY IS THE LAST LAST THREE MINUTES BEFORE THE ACTUAL GAMES BEGIN! WHEN CINNA REVEALS THE MOCKINGJAY PIN ON KATNISS' JACKET AND HOLDS HER CLOSE YOU CAN TELL THAT THERE RELATIONSHIP IS VERY SPECIAL AND MEANINGFUL! THEN, WHEN SHE STEPS INTO THE TUBE AND RISES INTO THE ARENA, IT MAKES YOU ALL SHAKEY BECAUSE IN JUST A MATTER OF SECONDS 24 TRIBUTES WILL BE FIGHTING TO THE DEATH! MY THIRD SCENE IS WHEN KATNISS CMFORTS RUE AFTER MARVEL THROWS A SPEAR STRAIGHT THROUGH HER STOMACH! AFTER SEEING KATNISS' REACTION AND WHAT SHE DOES AFTER THIS EVENT, YOU REALLY KNOW HOW MUCH SHE LOVED RUE! I CRY EVERY TIME I SE RUE GET HIT WITH THE SPEAR, THEN KATNISS SINGS, COVERS HER WITH FLOWERS, AND DOES THE THREE FINGER SALUTE TO DISTRICT 11! THOSE ARE JUST THREE SCENES THAT I AM CRAZY FOR! I AM CRAZY FOR THE WHOLE MOVIE! THIS IS CERTAINLY MY FAVOURITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME! THE HUNGER GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

i love the scene when they are on the train heading to the capitol and Katniss asks Haymitch how to find shelter and he says will you give me a minute to wake up sweatheart and Katniss repeats how do we find shelter and Haymitch says pass me the jam and Katniss take the knife and stabs the table, almost Haymith's hand, and Effie says, THAT IS MAHOGANY!!! and Haymitch says o great you just killed a place mat -

My favorite scene was when Katniss and Peeta risked their lives together to die from eating the blueberries. I think that was one of the hardest decisions they ever made and that moment, right before they popped the blueberries into their mouth, was the most intense moment ever! It's one of those cute yet sad things that you see movies. :') -
When you first show up for the Reaping in District 12 is one of my fave scenes but my fav is your acting in the scene while taking the train into the city for the first time!! You are very graceful!! -
One of my favorite scenes is the Reaping. Having the concept of showing that Katniss would risk her life and do anything for her younger sister is just a wonderful thing and I realy love that scene!
