Film Independent and the Los Angeles Times are presenting the eighteenth Los Angeles Film Festival, starting June 14th. It’s ten days chock-full of laughs and cries with 200 films from thirty countries, mostly screened at LA Live in Downtown Los Angeles.
EB’s new film People Like Us, directed by Alex Kurtzman, will have a showing at the festival on Friday, June 15th at 8pm at LA Live 11. It’s not out until June 29, so check it out at the festival for an early viewing!
Another I’m excited about is Woody Allen’s To Rome with Love with Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Alec Baldwin, Penelope Cruz, Greta Gerwig, and Woody Allen himself. It’ll open the festival on Thursday, June 14th and follows the amazing Allen film from last year Midnight in Paris.
Another film on my schedule? Magic Mike (Steven Soderbergh’s dramatic comedy about male strippers starring Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum).
There will be everything from free outdoor screenings to red carpet galas to celebrate all these great films. Tickets and passes are available here.
What movies are you excited about this summer?

'Magic Mike' has intrigued me with his trailer and I think that it will be a great film. Maybe some people that are in Los Angeles could give a review when it is presented or maybe Nina could do a review, it's only an idea. And Nina, give Elizabeth many thanks for answer my two question on his live chat. And all the best for 'People like Us', of course. -
I think after seeing the MTV Awards, I really really want to see Magic Mike (honestly don't even care if there is a plot, hehe). In addition to all the films listed above, I would also like to see "Olive", the first full-length film shot entirely on a camera phone. -
